Native Range Native to central Europe and western Asia, from France northeastwards to Denmark and Lithuania, to Ukraine, northern Turkey and the Caucasus and southwards in the mountains of northern Spain and Italy.

Fascinating Facts: Native of central Europe and western Asia. It was widely planted in the U.S. starting just after the Civil War. It is now naturalized in 14 states and is considered an invasive species in some of these states.
